Welcome To The Association

Association of Retired Judges of Supreme Court and High Courts of India was formed at New Delhi in year 2000, by the former Chief Justice of  India Justice A.M. Ahmadi, Justice S.C. Agrawal, Justice P.S. Mishra and Justice U.N. Bachawat former judges of the Supreme Court and Justice M.N Rao Roa Justice D.K. Basu, Justice K. Sukumaran, Justice Shobha Diksht Justice V.S. Dave, Justice A.K. Srivastava and Justice Ms. K Amareswari and other former Justices of the High Courts of India. The Association was registered on 23rd February 2001, under Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860, with registrar of Societies Government of NCT Delhi vide serial No. S 38785 of 2001, without any limitation of time.

 

The Association had no head office accommodation of its own and the work of the Association was being carried out at the residences of the President and the Secretary General as the Camp office which remained rotating with the change of the President and the Secretary General. However, the activities of the Association were carried out with full enthusiasm, expediency and purpose fully resulting in great achievements in the field of welfare activities of the retired Judges and the needy people of the society. It was in the year 2010, when Justice A.K. Srivastava, the then judge of the Delhi High Court, made sincere efforts and got allotted by the then Chief Justice Delhi High Court, Justice A.P. Shah, a room in the lawyers Chamber, Block III, ground floor, Delhi High Court Campus, New Delhi-110003, vide letter of allotment No. 4564. Genl./DHC dated 5/2/10. This room was also furnished by the High Court with two air conditioners and required furniture and other necessities. Though the registered office is described at the aforesaid allotted room, yet the day to day work of the head office of the Association is being carried out at the camp office of the President and the Secretary General.

 

Since then, the meetings of the executive committee are held in this allotted room. The annual general meetings as well as the annual conferences on legal topics on important current problems have been held in various states hosted by the respective state chapters of the Association as well as at such other venues as suggested and arranged by the Hon'ble Office Bearers. The main activities are being actually carried out by the state chapters in their respective areas towards the realization of the aims and objects of the Association. The members of the State Chapters are also holding periodical meetings for get-together and for enjoying a lunch hosted by any of the members.

ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE ASSOCIATION

  1. Widows of the retired judges of the Supreme Court and High Courts are now getting family pension at par with the widows of the government servants;

  2. Retired Advocate Judges are now getting full pension since 1.4.2004 irrespective of number of years served as judges of High Court because ten years period of practice as Advocate has been added to their qualifying as judge of High Court;

  3. Retired High Court judges are getting same medical facilities as are available to the sitting judges;

  4. The Honorable Supreme Court has already ruled that the state governments may pay domestic assistance allowance to retired Judges of the High Court according to their financial capacity. The state government have sanctioned the domestic assistance allowance to the retired chief justice & retired judges of their High Courts at different rates & As such there can not be any uniformity in the rate of domestics allowance, in the absence of any statutory provision in the high court Judges rules. It shall be the effort of the association to get the High Court Judges rules amended.
